Capture One Setup Help
How To Setup Capture One
To set up Capture One please follow each of the below steps one by one. Please ensure you perform each step! Missing even a single step will cause your job to fail. We recommend revisiting these steps each time you create a new Capture One session to ensure you have everything setup correctly.
Step 1 - Create A New Session
- Open Capture One, close any open windows and select “File” in the top left of your screen, then click “New Session”. Only Sessions will work with Headshot Tools.
- You can choose any name you like for this session, however it might be helpful to name the session similarly to your job name in Headshot Tools. Also, please make note of the "Location". We'll need this later for uploading.
Step 2 - Configure Your Tether Settings
- Select the “Tether Tab” in the top left corner of Capture One and expand the “Next Capture Naming” menu item. Click the “…” button on the right of the menu. Please clear the “Format” textbox of everything in it by backspacing out each field.
- Set your "Format" text box with the following tokens in this order then click "OK". The order of these fields matter! Clipboard Contents must come first!:

- Expand the "Next Capture Adjustments" section and set the "Other" drop down to "Defaults".
Step 3 - Configure Your Export Settings
- Navigate to the Export Tab. If you do not see this tab, click the three vertical dots icon on the right of the main menu, select “Add Tool Tab”, then select “Export”.
- Expand the “Export Recipes” menu item and uncheck any recipes making sure to scroll up and down the list. Click “+” icon at the bottom of the “Export Recipes” menu and click “New Recipe”. Name the new row “Headshot Tools” and hit enter.
- In the “Export Location” menu item fill in the following settings:
- Folder – Session Default (Output)
- Subfolder – Headshot Tools
- This subfolder will be created in the "Output" folder upon exporting your first image. - Existing Files – Overwrite
- If your version of Capture One does not have this setting, you can ignore this option.
- In the “Export Naming” menu item:
- Format – Image Name
- In the “Export Format & Size” menu item, fill in the following settings:
- Format – JPEG
- Quality – 80
- ICC Profile – sRGB Color Space Profile -or- any other sRGB color profile.
- Resolution – 300 px/in
- Scale – Long Edge
2048 px
Next Step: Now that you're set up, you need to watch the next video "Setting Up A Test Job". This will show you how Headshot Tools and Capture One work together.
Common Issues
The "Headshot Tools" subfolder is missing
Capture One will create your subfolder upon exporting the first image. Export an image and you should see your subfolder get created. If you're still not seeing this subfolder, make sure you created a "Session" in Capture One.Do I need to do these setup steps every time?
Yes! We always recommend you perform the steps in this and the "Setting Up A Test Job" videos before each job you perform. These few minutes ensure you have a 100% successful job every time. We promise it's worth it!When I export images, I'm receiving two or more copies of the same file.
Navigate to your "Export Recipes" tab. Scroll up and down through the list of checkboxes. You most likely have two or more checkboxes checked but they are slightly out of view because the list can scroll. You generally only want 1 export recipe checked. My images are showing up sideways in Headshot Tools.
Please double check the folder you selected for uploading via the Auto Upload Utility. This behavior is typical when uploading from the "Capture" folder in Capture One. Please select the "Output/Headshot Tools/" folder. The "Output/Headshot Tools/" folder is where your exported images are placed. You can see more about this issue here!I don't see the ICC Profile titled "sRGB Color Space Profile"
Some versions of Capture One list this color profile as "sRGB IEC61966-2.1". Choose this ICC Profile instead or any other sRGB color profile.I don't see the 4 Digit Counter!
The 1 Digit Counter token is a dropdown. Click the icon beside the token to change it to a 4 Digit Counter. Still not seeing it? Watch the video at the top of this page to see how to access the 4 Digit Counter.I'm experiencing intermittent tethering connectivity.
Please see our Tethering Best Practices here. The clipboard contents will change while I'm shooting.
You need to disable "Universal Clipboard" or "Hand Off". This feature allows you to share the clipboard across all of your associated devices and some other device is copying to the clipboard while you're using the system.
